CM PUNK'S STRAIGHT EDGE SOCIETY

CM Punk was the ring-leader of an interesting cult-like group of followers known as the "Straight Edge Society." These were people that had turned from pill-popping and alcohol abuse, and vowed to be completely "straight-edge," confirming their vow by getting their head shaved in ring. Punk took on a very Christ-like character, growning his dark hair long and wearing a beard, looking much like Jesus is depicted in art work. Punk wore large X's on his wrapped fists, in the same places where nails would have wounded Jesus's hands at his crucifixion on the cross. CM Punk's followers proclaimed their lives had been changed massively for the better since they began imitating Punk's way of life, the same way Christians try to live out their lives as mirrors of Christ. CM Punk would often sit cross legged in the ring, and address his audience very calmly and cooly from this position despite a raging feud that had been building for what was sometimes months. This display of non-violence (as non-violent as you can get in pro-wrestling) also displays Christ-like tones, as Jesus reminded his followers so many times to "turn the other cheek."
