JAKE "THE SNAKE" ROBERTS

Like Shawn Michaels, Ted DiBiase, and just about every professional wrestler, Jake Roberts didn't have the best personal life. He spent his time outside the ring using and abusing drugs and alcohol and battling a whole array of mental illnesses. He nearly ended his own life on many occasions, before finding God and turning his life around. Jake "The Snake" Roberts left the WWE for a spell before this transformation, returning not as "The Snake," the soft-spoken heel he once played, but as Jake Roberts, wrestling as a pastor. His return signalled a symbolic feud with Stone Cold Steve Austin; a character that cursed, swore, and guzzled beer. Many have interpreted the feud with Austin as a symbolic feud between Jake and his former self (Madison 2014, Mathewson 2014). Jake did not evanglize explicitly for his faith, but he did use his influence through the WWE to talk about the benefits that have come to him since finding God at "Meet & Greet" events and other such oppourtunities. Jake isn't pushy with his faith, he doesn't try to convert. Jake is, however, open and honest about his positive personal experiences with Christianity when given the oppourtunity to tell.
