REVEREND D-VON & DEACON BATISTA

Reverend D-Von's religious connection is blatantly obviously. He plays a be-dazzled Christian pastor, accompanied by his ripped assistant, Deacon Batista. We can't be sure what denomination D-Von is, but it sure isn't Catholic. He airs promos urging people to "TESTIFY!" and presents with a very enthusiastic air. He dresses in what is close to traditional Catholic clerical wear and is accompanied by a meat-head who is identified as a "deacon"; a role specific to the Catholic church, but his preachy, evangelical style strays from the somber Catholic tradition. Reverend D-Von is a meld of every denomination out there, much like The Simpsons Revered Lovejoy. Reverend D-Von's character is therefore inclusive of all denominations, and highlights the hilarious aspects of Christianity. With Christianity one of the three biggest religions practiced in the world, D-Von and Bautista play a gimmick that is relateable to many people. Those who take their religion seriously will pay attention, be pleased to be represented, and root for D-Von's character. Those who are not religious will find hilarity in the gimmick, and also pay attention.
People hold their religious beliefs, or lack thereof, very close to their hearts. When religious people don't take themselves too seriously, it's easy to get belly laughs with religious jokes because they fully understand and "get" the jokes. Fpr this reason, gimmicks that play off well-known systems of belief (or disbelief) are prime business choices.
